Please Don't Take This App Away From Your Kids

Instead, challenge your son or daughter to a game and see if you can beat him/her.

The app is "Guess the Character" and I found it to be lots of fun and frankly, it is one where observation and deductive reasoning is required.

The concept for the app is a simple one:

You have to guess the character of your opponent before your opponent guesses your character.  There are 24 characters to choose from--or the app selects for you.

You can play against a living opponent or against the "computer."

Now, each player gets a turn to ask questions about the characters--like "does the character have blonde or brown hair?" in order to narrow down the choices.  The better the questions, the faster you eliminate the wrong characters.

You can take a guess at which character is your opponent's at any time--but it is usually better to use observational skills and deductive reasoning to eliminate the most characters with each question.

Here is a video for the app:

I read that this app is great for those who know the game "Guess Who," but frankly, I never heard of it.

The Monsters Family: Preschool kids will love it and learn from it!

"The Monsters Family" is an iPad and iPhone app that kids from the age of 2 to 5 will have fun and learn.  The app uses fun looking monster characters and excellent animation to guide kids in games that help with concentration, color recognition, counting and more.

The family of monsters include the Mom and Dad, and the kids Ella and Elliot.  When your child selects a photo with one of these monsters, the app opens up a new screen.

For example, pick Dad, and the new screen is Dad is in his chef hat wearing his "I Love Dad" apron.  He starts a learning activity for your child, and as your child plays he makes comments to help.

The learning games include matching, counting, words, spot the difference, silhouettes and colors.

Here is our video to help you decide if this app is right for your child.
